Black salsify belongs to the herbacious layer in the food forest. The growth rate is medium. Fully grown the plant has an average height of 0.3 to 0.9 meter. and a width of 0.3 to 1 meter.
This species forms a taproot root system. Black salsify is no nitrogen fixer.
